South America
Wikipedia - South America is a continent located in the Western Hemisphere, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. The continent is also considered a subcontinent of the Americas. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean; North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest. It includes twelve independent countries—Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela—as well as French Guiana, which is an overseas region of France and the Falkland Islands of the United Kingdom.

2. Spanish is spoken everywhere except Brazil which speaks Portugese so you may want to bring a phrase book. 3. Visas for all countries but Brazil can be arranged at the boarder. Visas for Brazil must be arranged ahead of time. 4. Yellow fever vaccinations and anti-malaria tablets are required for people travelling to the Amazon Basin. Full information on health should be obtained from your travel agent or Destination Holidays, or by contacting the Medical and Vaccination centre in you capital city, as medical requirements change regularly in these areas. 5. Always carry cash on you when going to smaller towns as they may not have bank machines and many of the hotels and businesses may only accept cash. 6. Carry an emergency supply of US currency as it is accepted all over South America. 7 In most major cities the water is fdrinkable, however consult your local guide. Bottled water is also available in all areas. However, it is unwise to eat salads or fruit that cannot be peeled, except in better known restaurants. |
