Hide in a Secret Grotto Behind a Warm Waterfall at Ma'in Hot Spa

If taking a shower under a warm waterfall then relaxing behind the waterfall in a steamy warm cave appeals to you, then you need to visit Ma’in Hot Spa. These healings springs are believed to have been frequented by biblical King Herod who lived in nearby Mukawer where John the Baptist was beheaded following Salome’s fateful dance.  It is a hot freshwater mineral spring and waterfall that lies 264 metres (866 ft) below sea level. The springs, located on the edge of Wadi Mujib, feed the Dead Sea. The water contains large amounts of hydrogen sulfide.
For those seeking the perfect retreat to relax and be pampered whilst enjoying the therapeutic benefits of Ma’In hot spring waterfalls, you may want to stay at the Evason Ma’In Hot Springs and Six Senses Spa. Set like an oasis in the dramatic terrain, the location is easily accessible and defines the resort and spa experience in the Middle East - making it a destination of choice. Situated on a cliff top at the edge of the Dead Sea where guests can catch a glimpse of the lights of Jerusalem and beautiful sunsets reflecting across the water. The concept is based on an Arabic style restaurant with a hint of Lebanese.
Leisure Activities include
-Mountain gym upon request – “an outdoor workout in the fresh air and sunshine go for a mountain trail workout with a personal trainer and learn that wherever you are you can still exercise with nature”
-Wide ranging selection of local attractions including relaxation trips to the Dead Sea and hiking trips to the surrounding mountains and valleys with our LIFE guide
-Cultural activities and excursions including city tours, the John the Baptist site, the Tomb of Moses, the city of Petra or Jerash (about 3 hours by car)and the Mosaic city of Madaba
So make your way to the Ma'in Hot Spa and treat yourself to a magical spa experience literally fit for a King!

Teresa the Traveler's Ma'in Hot Spa Travel Tips

Stick to Your Budget - If you are a budget traveler like myself you may want to stay in Madaba and rent a car or hire a driver to take you here for the day (the cover charge is minimal) but if you have more to spend and want a luxerious experience you may want to stay at the Evason and Six Senses Spa on site.
Be Modest - Jordan is a Muslim country with a conservative dress code so don't pack that string bikini you bought in Brazil.
Test the Water - The water that flows through the stream inside the grotto behind the waterfall is steaming hot, so be careful not to get burned, sit by the stream but don't walk through it.

Ma'in Hot Spa

HOW TO GET THERE – To get to the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea, fly into the capital city of Amman, then take a minibus to Madaba.  From there hire a cab driver to take you to the Dead Sea on a daytrip or if you want to splurge, you can book a hotel right on the Dead Sea.  From Madaba or the Dead Sea, rent a car or hire a driver to take you up the mountain to Ma'in Hot Spa for the day or you can book a luxery room at the Evason Resort right on site. Evason Ma’In is located 30 kilometres from  the ‘mosaic’ city of Madaba and is an easy and  fantastically scenic, 60 minute drive from Amman Queen Alia International Airport (AMM).
