Island of Formentera
Excerpt from the book On a Tall Budget and Short Attention Span from the Teresa the Traveler Series.
The next morning I was exhausted and spent the best part of the day wandering around town and lying on the beach where I came across a booth selling boat tours to the island of Formentera. I booked a seat for the next morning.
The 19-kilometer long island is located about 6 kilometers south of Ibiza. Formentera is the smallest of the Illes Pituses group of islands and for the longest time it was only reachable by ship from Ibiza but now there are regular lines from the mainland making the island much more popular with tourists. Nude sunbathing is permitted on most of the beaches providing a great vacation place for those who like to beach in the buff. After a short boat ride we arrived at a rocky shore where we docked then walked over to the most beautiful pink sandy beach I have ever seen. As I sunk my feet into the luscious sand stretching into the sea, I knew I had found heaven on earth. I went for a walk around the island and noticed a number of bike rental places. Biking along the island’s dirt roads was a popular tourist activity but I chose the slower pace of walking. As beautiful as the island was, one day was long enough because while I love to visit paradise, I am not quite ready to spend copious amounts of time there. After spending the day at Formentera, I was relaxed and ready to continue my big adventure. That night I caught the ferry back to Barcelona. For tips on visiting Europe CLICK HERE
